Fighting For Animals Case By Case

Pin & Tack's newest charity is Animal Legal Defense Fund (aka ALDF.)
They fight everyday to stop animal cruelty through legal means.

Watch this quick video to find out more about them and why they do what they do.

A portion of each sale benefits ALDF, but I strongly urge you to support them in other ways.
Please donate directly, volunteer or spread their message. Any bit helps.

SAVE THE DATE: World Day For Farmed Animals

"World Day for Farmed Animals is October 2nd, chosen because it is Gandhi's birthday. Throughout his life, Gandhi undertook nearly 20 fasts as political and social protest."

Did you know? Most animals are starved at least 12 hours - sometimes days! - on their way to slaughter. On October 2nd, activists around the world will fast against slaughter, remembering the suffering that farmed animals go through before ending up on the dinner plate.

To show my support, I have signed the pledge to fast for one day. I hope you will be a part of it, too.
Sign the pledge, go to an event, or share this campaign. Be a voice for those that don't have one!

#FastAgainstSlaughter, World Day for Farmed Animals

And if you are new to the issues, watch this video, which shows in clear, brutal honesty (that's your warning) why people are choosing to participate in World Day for Farmed Animals.

Help Build The ROC

"Brick by brick… dog by dog… we are laying the foundation to end animal-testing. Literally and metaphorically Beagle Freedom Project is building a safe space to help the countless dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs and other animals that have suffered unspeakable violence in research laboratories."

For $100, you can have a "brick" to help build Beagle Freedom Project's Rescue & Outreach Center.
It will be located in Los Angeles, CA and your name will appear on a brick used to create it.

The center will include an office and education building, senior housing, meet and greet exercise area, and other facilities to help support former laboratory animals that will start their new lives with compassion and love.

Learn more about this campaign and The Beagle Freedom Project here.

It's The 1st Of The Month - Bark, bark!

It's August. It's most likely hot where you are.
I know just what you need to relax & cool off.

BEAGLES!

Not what you thought I was going to say, huh?
Well, it's a new month & a new charity for Pin & Tack.

Their is really only one reason to support this cause.
It's the dogs, always the dogs. They deserve compassion, love & support.

The Tex-Mex Rescue: Seven beagles rescued!
Testing on animals is no joke & these dogs go through a lot of horrors.
And the sad truth is that it is not very helpful.
Less than 2% (1.6% to be more exact) of human illnesses are ever seen in animals.

"These first few moments of freedom captured by teary eyes . . ."
Beagles are chosen because of their gentle natures, ability to live in cages, and they don't cost very much to feed.

". . . now in their foster homes, getting veterinary treatment, nutritious food, and tons of TLC."
The Beagle Freedom Project rescues beagles from labs, then gives them a loving home.
It's that simple - at least when written down, but the work they do is far from simple or cheap.

In August, Pin & Tack will donate a portion of all sales to them. I encourage you to help out as well!

F Is For Forest & Its Color (Blogging From A To Z)

Welcome to Blogging From A To Z with Pin & Tack.
You're given a letter to inspire your blog writing.

Today's letter is . . .

It is brought to you by Forest Green, the inspiration behind these oh, so lovely handmade finds. I've always enjoyed the color, but I absolutely love the forest. It's filled with so many different delight things: trees, ferns, flowers and animals. Nature is glorious, don't you agree?

Food For Thought

Has your animal rescue group or shelter adopted a vegan menu policy for their charity events? If not, why not? It only makes sense and Animal Place designed a campaign to bring this about: Food For Thought.

"In addition to dogs and cats, your shelter may rescue other animals - farmed animals -, like rabbits, horses, goats, and sheep. As with any good shelter, you strive to find forever homes for the animals you save. Yet, it may still be common to find that similar animals are served as the fare at your functions. "

For those of you that are not vegan, please don't shy away! This goal can be implemented and it has. Animal League Defense Fund, Animal Place, Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary and many others have adopted policies to respect the animals they support.

Animal Place provides plenty of resources to help you spread the word and bring about this change to business & charity event practices.

Blessings & joy, yours truly . . . Corrinne Quinn

(PS - Animal Place will benefit from every item sold at Pin & Tack, so stop by the shops OR you can donate directly to their cause. Either works and is greatly appreciated!)

Pin & Tack Hearts Animal Place

Pin & Tack loves Animal Place and let me count the ways . . .

1. Animal Place provides a permanent home to animals from farms (big & small), slaughterhouses, and research facilities.

Animal Place Sanctuary, Grass Valley, CA

2. Animal Place "strives to create meaningful change for farmed animals through advocacy and education."

3. Animal Place promotes veganism through publications and cooking classes.

For February, Pin & Tack will be supporting Animal Place with $1 from every item sold at the shops.  However, I always encourage you to donate directly.

Your support will help this organization continue to provide the animals everything they need to have a healthy, happy life. And every animal deserves that!

Charity Starts Here . . . Ways To Support Dogs For The Deaf

Did you know? Dogs For The Deaf was founded in 1977. Ever since, they have been dedicated to each dog and person for life, offering guidance and support to make sure they remain a successful team!

Dogs For The Deaf facility, located in Central Point, Oregon
And there are only a few more days to shop at Pin & Tack to benefit Dogs For The Deaf! $1 from every listing sold at the shops will support this important charity.

Not in the market for boutique pins, tacks & other delights? Well, that is never a problem. I encourage you to donate directly and Dogs For The Deaf offers a variety of ways to do so.

A few of the dogs that have successfully completed the training.
Field Of Memories: With a donation of $150 or more, you can honor a loved one with a memorial stone and daffodil.

Recurring Donation: Set aside funds each month to be automatically given to Dogs For The Deaf. Any amount is appreciated!

Special Occasion Donation: Send the gift of charity to someone special with a greeting card and monetary donation in their name.

Shop: Spread the word through gifts with DFD logo, such as cards, clothing, mugs, totes & more at their online ship.

Map shows all of the locations where they have successfully placed dogs.
It can cost up to $25,000 to rescue, professionally train, and place a DFD dog. They charge only $50 for the application process. To make sure you are serious and can afford keeping the dog, $500 is required to actually receive the dog, but it is fully refunded after 1 year of living with the dog. How incredible is that?
